Herniated Disc Research

Herniated Disc Research – Introduction

Herniated disc research is progressing by the minute with current medical research. Stem-Cell therapy, for example, has been shown to partially regenerate disc. In the European spine journal, doctors Kenneth M. C. Cheung, Danny Chan, and Victor Y. L.Leung have reported that “substantial progress has been made in the field of stem cell regeneration of the intervertebral disc.

Herniated Disc Research – A new approach?

Also a entirely new approach to herniated disc recovery is being researched with TNF inhibitors which were made available in the United States in 1998. They were shown to be potentially successful wit htreating sciatica in experiments beginning in 2001. One of these anti-TNF agents, called etanercept, may allow non-invasive identification of sites where the nerves are inflammed. This will allow more targeted pain generators to be seen that are the cause of symptoms overall allowing more specific treatment.
